A THOUSAND HEARTS

I'm tired; I've got so much to do

But tired, it's hard to see it through.

The wall I face seems three miles high,

And all this race can pass me by because

I'm tired; so many work so hard;

But right now, I wonder just what for.

I need an ear, I need a friend

To tell the whole bloody story,

I need to shout and be.

You're tired; maybe you work too hard.

Be easy, time to let down your guard.

I know they say that strength is key

But sometimes strong means just to let yourself

be tired--why don't you come on down?

Set by my fire; we'll kick it around.

And we can laugh, and we can cry,

And we can share gory details,

And let ourselves just be.

Thanks for listening; now I'll know what to do

When I'm tired--I'll seek out friends like you.

We'll have a party, we can dance.

And in the dancing, as we all join hands

We'll see faces, different as they can be,

Each one smiling, each knowing, just like me,

That one by one we'll build a swell

To carry our people forward

A thousand hearts must be.
