Eena

c 2003 Rachel Nelson

We’d just moved in, there’s a knock on the door

Who could it be?

Who could it be?

On my back porch, looking at me

Was a calico cat

            Calico cat

Her name was Eena (Eena), Eena (Eena)

Little tiny cat, but she’s mighty at that,

She’s having babies (babies)—maybe (maybe)

She could have a kitten for you.

We gave her some food, asked, “where do you live?”

She said, “I live here.

            I live here.

Thanks for the food; can I have some more?

I’m a mama, you see

            Mama, you see.”

Because I’m Eena (Eena), Eena (Eena),

Little tiny cat, but I’m mighty at that,

I’m having babies (babies)—maybe (maybe)

I could have a kitten for you.”

We looked down, and sure enough

Her tummy was big

            tummy was big.

Any day now, we expect

Some kittens ‘round here

            kittens round here

Because she’s Eena (Eena), Eena (Eena),

Little tiny cat, but she’s mighty at that,

She’s having babies (babies)—maybe (maybe)

She could have a kitten for you.

She could have a kitten for you.

Eena have a kitten for you.
